Latest Updates from Our Project:

Playing Card Visual
over 4 years ago – Sun, Jan 12, 2020 at 11:11:15 PM

Here's a quick look at the chosen finish for cards.  The USPCC linen finish will be familiar to most people but I thought I'd send this image to give an idea of how the finished cards will be looking.  I found out when producing the previous deck that you can only call the cards Air Cushion if you are using the Bicycle Branding from USPCC, but essentially air cushion and linen are the same.

Hope you had a great weekend - I'll be in touch with more updates soon.

Prints of your favourite card
over 4 years ago – Fri, Jan 10, 2020 at 07:17:12 PM

Just a quick update to say thank you for your continued support!

I've included a little visual below of one of the prints and a suggestion for framing that will really get the best out of your artwork.

The Ace of Diamonds - print visual with framing suggestion.

If you decide to get a limited edition print of your favourite card, you will receive a low edition print for a little over 100 pounds.  The print will be signed and editioned as per the image above.  Each print is carefully prepared and printed on high quality 310gsm german etching paper from Hahnemuhle.  The print is made using archival inks which results in an archival quality image guaranteed not to fade under normal light conditions for at least 200 years.  The print will be finished with hand torn edges which really show off the qualities of the paper.  Each print will be rolled in a 6 inch diamter tube wrapped in glassine paper to protect your image and the large diameter tube will mean that there won't be problems with curling once you receive the print.  If you haven't pledged a print yet - why not consider adding one to your order. to add a print to your existing pledge - just add the pledge price of 100 to your existing pledge.  Each print also comes with a free standard edition deck :)

When it comes to framing, the above image shows a float mount which highlights the torn edge paper.  This can be achieved at most good framers and is created by mounting the print on a foamboard sheet, raising it from the background and creating a shadow round the edge.

Finally have a great weekend, looking forward to sharing details of the card back design and tuck in the coming week.

Jokers Secured!!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Jan 07, 2020 at 09:35:17 PM

Huge thank you to everyone who has pledged for a standard or collector's deck.  I've been talking to gamblers warehouse today about foiling and embossing which is all new to me but I've got a pretty concrete idea for how these will work out!!

An extra special thank you to the 4 pledges for the comissioned Jokers in the pack. That's it they are all taken!  Getting these in early will help to move the project along meaning it's possible to get all artwork ready for the end of the kickstarter campaign... it'll be tough going to get them ready but I like a challenge!

I have a workshop to run tomorrow in East London so I am looking to begin work on the card backs later this week - thanks for supporting and following this project and thanks for the suggestions that have been coming in.  Let's hope this turns out to be a great deck!

We are funded !!!!!!
over 4 years ago – Mon, Jan 06, 2020 at 08:49:05 PM

Thank you all! I am completely stoked that the project funded in just 3 dats - it's a great start and means that I'll be able to include all the elements I had hoped to in the deck.  The hard work now starts designing the card backs and tuck with the help of gamblers warehouse.  They will be advising on the creation of the embossed and foil elements.

A lot of people have asked about the original deck, if you didn't magae to get one of these - I have provided a link to my website below and am offering these decks with free shipping.  There are very limited numbers of these decks - please note they are also a limited edition.

Thanks also for your input on the card design - I'll be starting soon and sharing progress...

Also if you are thinking of comissioning an artwork for one of the cards, please get your pledge in I have 2 of the joker comissions already taken and have received interest for the last 2!!!

I'm off to stretch some paper and prep some artwork for the tucks - have a great day!!!

What a great start!! Thank you for your support

In just 3 days we are almost there with the funding target and the more we raise the more options I will have to add to the quality of the decks.  Thank you so much!!

My main aim for this project is to produce a deck that is superior to the first deck in every way.   To do this I really need your help and input - let me know what you'd like to see in this deck - are there any updates or combinations of items that you would like added to the rewards?

Here are the plans for the next step in the project...

1.  I am going to start producing a drawing for the back of the card - in keeping with the rest of the deck this will be an original painting in ink and tea, my idea for this is an ethereal character with four cards in front of her - almost levitating.  There will be a lot of floral detail in the work but let's hear from you about some other elements that I could include in the work - what works well and what doesn't work well for a card back?  Please follow @carnegriff on instagram - I will be creating a live broadcast of the paintings for this project and some other developments - if you set notifications for my account you should be able to tune in to see the work unfold.

2.  The card back illustration will also form part of the design for the tuck box.  The front of the box will feature the illustration called 'Comfort' which is featured as the top card in the deck on my project, the girl with 2 foxes. the box will be predominantly white, in keeping with the original deck but will be surrounded with floral elements.  The collectors tuck box will add embossing to the illuistration and also foil elements to the raised areas and other spots.  Please note that the collectors edition cards will also be gilded as well as featuring a uniquely numbered seal and both standard decks and collectors decks will be numbered seperately.

3. Deciding on stock options and stretch goals for crushed decks will be included soon.  I am not sure how important the crushed stock is to collectors so your feedback would be really valuable on this also - I'm a one man band so please be patient - if I don't get back to you straight away - I'm probably off somewhere painting!!

That's it for now - thanks a million - please keep sharing the project if you can - the more successful the project is the more we can make the deck something that I'm really proud of and that you'll be pleased to have in your collection.  - Carne
